Hello! We are Javier and Andy. Thanks for taking the time to get to know us. We have been together for five+ years—the fastest and happiest years of our lives so far. We met and fell in love, got married, and bought a house. We also lived through the pandemic, lost a parent, and supported loved ones with health issues. Through it all, we’ve become even closer, and even more clear about what we want for our lives - to welcome a child into our loving home and grow our family. We are an “opposites attract” couple. Javier grew up in Cuba outside of Havana in a modest but resourceful family and came to the United States with few resources but a lot of determination. Today he is a software engineer who is analytical, always learning, and listens to podcasts about everything from current events to space travel. He is happiest outdoors, hiking and camping. Andy grew up in Eastern Washington, the fourth of five active boys in a full house. He is a communications director who cares about the people and the world around him. He is an avid reader who dreams of writing his own books, and plays the piano as often as possible. He loves to laugh and is often planning activities with friends and family to keep everyone connected. We are deeply connected by our values, our ability to make each other laugh and think, and most of all our love of family. Our lives can feel like an episode of Modern Family (our favorite TV show)! Our big family includes English teachers and Spanish speakers; Amazon employees and health care providers; gay people and straight people; car fanatics and Swifties; people who are white and people of color; adventure seekers and home bodies. Our nephews and nieces are adopted and biological; athletes and dancers; and introverts and extroverts. We live in a quiet neighborhood in a big city in Washington State. Our home is close to parks, playgrounds, and schools. We love to cook, read, and watch (maybe a little too much) Netflix. We are silly and competitive at Mario Kart and card games. Our dog Sheba is a big personality and a huge source of affection for us. She’s playful, loves children, and protectively watches over our house. We can’t wait to be parents because we are ready to expand the love we have for each other to include a child, and to dedicate ourselves every day to raising a family. Parenting will be our greatest adventure and our first priority. We choose open adoption because we want to give our child the best the world has to offer. We deeply value the importance of a child’s biological roots. If you choose us, we want to build a relationship based on openness, respect, and whatever level of connection feels right for you. Whether through letters, visits, or shared milestones, we want our child to know their full story and grow up with the love of both families. We will support our child to explore their dreams and unique talents, and will encourage confidence, compassion, curiosity and a love of learning. We’ll create a home where they feel safe to take risks and make mistakes. Where we as parents navigate challenges with patience, communication, and understanding. We will celebrate their successes, big or small. And we will be there during tough times, with comfort, connection, and unconditional love. Thank you for reading, and we wish you the very best in your journey. Sincerely, Javier and Andy

Javier making Andy laugh, too successfully
In the San Juan islands with our goddaughter.
My best friend would describe me as...
Loving. I'm very dedicated to the people I care about. I don't do a lot of small talk and prefer to really know how the people in my life are doing!
-Andy
My neighborhood is a good place to raise a family because…
It's quiet and peaceful. Our neighbors range from 80-year-olds who have lived here their whole lives, to young families who just moved in. In the summers we have block parties and games for the kids, and in the winter we have cookie exchanges. But our favorite part is having 3 parks within a short walk, where we take our dog Sheba for lots of ball throws.

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you look at the night sky?
Why don't I do this more often? ... I love to be in an area without light pollution and to be able to appreciate the vastness of the night sky. It's why I love camping and hiking.

Complete the sentence, “I can’t live without……”
Javier's short ribs and cheesy polenta. It's my favorite meal!

Favorite season and why?
Spring is my favorite season. The days are longer and brighter and I enjoy seeing everything come back into bloom.

My philosophy on parenting is...
To do everything we can to help our child grow into the person they are meant to be. To cultivate their curiosity, interest, and unique abilities. To create a safe and secure environment where they can confidently explore their interests and the world around them.

I'm super competitive when it comes to...
Games - any and all games! I love video games, board games, card games. A little smack talk is my love language. :-)

Three years from now, I hope our child’s birth mom is…
Happy, healthy and content -- the same I would wish for anyone we care about.

What is the best word to describe our family?
Fun. We laugh a lot, no matter where we are or what we are doing -- as long as we're together. We take adventures, both locally in Washington state and traveling abroad.
