Hello!

Hello! We are Josh, Anjie and our son Sam, a fun family living in the suburbs just north of Seattle. We’re so glad to be able to give you a glimpse into our lives, and we thank you for taking the time to get to know a little about us. We became friends at work in 2008 and after spending most of our spare time together, started dating just over a year later. We married in the fall of 2013 and within a year bought our first house, which is coincidentally when we also adopted our cat, Liz Lemon. We were hoping to start a family right away but struggled with pregnancy loss and infertility for a few years. In late 2016, we were blessed with the miracle of our biological son, Sam. Now that we’re ready to grow our family again, we know in our hearts that open adoption is the natural next step. We believe that every child deserves to know their whole story and be in relationship with their birth family. Josh is an accountant at a local accounting firm. He enjoys hanging out with friends, fishing, or tweaking a recipe to make it better. He is a hard worker, but also knows how to put work aside and have fun with his family. He’s known for his great sense of humor, especially his extensive repertoire of Dad jokes. Anjie is an Executive Assistant and can be found taking pictures at every opportunity. Or baking. She loves her family and friends and is grateful for their wisdom, laughter, and support - emotionally and with everything that goes along with being parents. Sam attends a nearby preschool and couldn’t be happier there. He tells us all about his “great day!” when we pick him up in the afternoons and is always so excited to go back. We enjoy eating dinner together on weeknights and look forward to “Family Days” on weekends. Josh does most of the cooking, and we are so lucky that Sam will eat just about anything, as he likes to have a voice in the weekly meal planning. He comes up with some great ideas, but if it were up to him, we would have roast beef every week! Sam is very excited about becoming a big brother and we know he will be so good at it. He’s caring, thoughtful and the best little helper. Weekends include getting outside as a family, rain or shine. (And let’s be honest, in the Seattle area, it’s often rain.) We love driving to the local beaches on Puget Sound for rock skipping and shell collecting. Or we head out for a bike ride, walk, or hike in the woods. On sunny days, we head to the zoo, the playground, or out for a picnic. We actually love the zoo so much that we are members and go as often as possible. Grandmas and Grandpas live a few hours away on the other side of the mountains in Washington, so we can easily set out to one of their houses for the weekend. (Although we’re pretty sure they wish it was every weekend.) We love to host friends and family for any type of gathering in our home. Holiday meals, watching Seahawks games, summer barbecues, and our weekly “Sunday Night Supper Club” with close friends, just to name a few. When we were searching for our current house, we knew we needed to find a home where we could use our gift of hospitality, and we have been pleasantly surprised at how many people we’ve been able to make space for! We look forward to welcoming a birth family into our lives and creating new traditions, as well as developing the traditions we already have in new ways together. We can’t wait to see how we all learn and grow from the lifelong relationship. Our hope is that everyone involved will feel loved, safe, and have a true sense of belonging. With gratitude and respect, Josh, Anjie and Sam

If I could change one thing about the World, it would be...

More compassion and listening

-Josh

Dogs or cats?

I like dogs more, but cats are just so much easier to take care of so I put up with them (and secretly enjoy them).

-Josh

If I could choose one type of food to eat for the rest of my life, it would be:

Tacos for life.

-Josh

Favorite season and why?

Summer! Long days, camping, hiking, BBQs, and all the things outside!

-Josh

When we argue, what’s it about?

Usually a miscommunication, where somebody's expectations weren't met and there are some hurt feeling to address.

-Josh

If I could have dinner with anyone—dead or alive—I would pick...

My grandma Vera - she was such a kind sould and I wish she could have met my kid(s) because they woudl just LOVE each other.

-Josh

What scares you?

The thought of being completely alone

-Josh

Three years from now, I hope our child’s birth mom is…

Involved in our life in some capacity. Hopefully, she will feel like a member of our family. I would love for her to be proud of her choices and living a life that makes her happy - in a perfect world, one in which we could cheer her on!

-Anjie

We are the best choice because…

We have a whole lotta love to give, and we are pretty down-to-earth.

-Josh

My best friend would describe me as...

Loyal, funny, and a good cook.

-Josh

My neighborhood is a good place to raise a family because…

There are SO many wonderful families with kids and they are all involved in our little community. We have sidewalks, a huge park close by, and the friendliest neighbors that would help any of us out at any time. We're rarely out in our yard without having a good chat with one or more of our neighbors.

-Anjie

What scares you?

Not bringing value or worth to a relationship or situation.

-Anjie

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you look at the night sky?

How small we are in such a big universe, and how incredible it is we all have our own story and place within it.

-Josh

I'm super competitive when it comes to...

Seahawks football

-Josh

If you had to live on an RV or sailboat for the rest of your life, which would it be?

RV! I grew up RV'ing and loved it.

-Josh

The most special thing I own is...

A knife my dad got me when I was 8 years old and we spent a week in Yellowstone National Park. That, or my wedding ring.

-Josh

Complete the sentence, “I can’t live without……”

air XD

-Josh

My neighborhood is a good place to raise a family because…

It has a wonderful community of neighbors and other kids, who all watch out for each other and have periodic events. The local schools are amazing, there are fun parks walking distance, and it's just a few blocks from the lightrail to all the big-city offerings.

-Josh

If you had to pick a famous person to play you in a movie, who would it be?

Miles Teller

-Josh

In five years our relationship with our child’s birth mother will…

be based in mutual respect for each other, where we can hold each other in good faith and love our child togther

-Josh

Do I have kids? How do they feel about a sibling?

Yes, our son Sam. He has expressed on his own that he would like to have a sibling, and I believe him. He is a big-hearted kid, who has been thoughtful of others at an early age.

-Josh

Favorite season and why?

I LOVE the fall. The weather can still be sunny and warm one day, (but not too hot), and the next day I'll need a cozy sweater. I like the unpredictibility - it lets me mix up my wardrobe. I also love hot drinks and a reason to stay inside just a little bit more.

-Anjie

Do you consider yourself religious or spiritual?

I consider myself spiritual, even though I attend a church.

-Josh

We are the best choice because…

We would love an adopted child fully and unconditionally, while also holding space for any and all birth family that would want to be in relationship with us.

-Anjie

My philosophy on parenting is...

Lovingly encurage good decisions, while also allowing learning moments. Always being there for my kid, where they know they can depend on me no matter what.

-Josh

What is the best word to describe our family?

Laughter

-Josh

Complete the sentence, “I can’t live without……”

My family, coffee, the unwavering love from my husband, hugs, Ben & Jerry's Phish Food Ice Cream, deep frienships, Netflix, Seattle sports, and time on my own every once in a while to calm my introvert side. In no particular order. :)

-Anjie

Three years from now, I hope our child’s birth mom is…

at peace with the hard choice being made now, and knows that we will do all we can to love her child well.

-Josh

Do I have kids? How do they feel about a sibling?

We have an almost 8 year old son who has wanted a sibling for so long. He would make the most amazing big brother. He's thoughtful and caring and would take the best care of a sibling. It makes him sad quite often that he's an only child and he often tells us he's still hoping for more kids in our family.

-Anjie

My favorite place in the World is...

A quiet place where the fishing is good.

-Josh

I would never...

fight a silverback gorilla and a grizzly bear at the same time.

-Josh

If you had to pick a famous person to play you in a movie, who would it be?

I would want Tina Fey to play me in a movie. She's delightful and quirky, but can also be serious, when needed. Her work has made me laugh so hard that I cried. But I also appreciate her sensitive side.
